Loving L’Oreal, “The Infallible Super Slim Liquid Eyeliner Pen” and “Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara” Review

I have had a few product failures the past few months, seems like I have bought several things I did not like. But I finally have a few winner products to share! :)

I FINALLY found a liquid eyeliner pen from the drugstore I LOVE. It is FANTASTIC! It is the L’Oreal “The Infallible Super Slim Liquid Eyeliner Pen”:

I am so excited to find a product that I think is every bit as good as the Stila “Stay All Day” liner pen… but a fraction of the cost! It retails for around $8.99, which is already a great deal (compared to the $20 for the Stila) and there are also L’Oreal coupons floating around various magazines (I found one in this months “Allure” mag!)

I also desperately needed new mascara, I was hating the cover girl “Lash Blast” i bought recently. Super clumpy in my opinion. So I also went for L’Oreal, and got the “Voluminous Million Lashes”:

Another LOVE it product! I was going to wear false eyelashes for a girls night out, but when I tried this I decided I didn’t need the falsies, I was happy enough with this mascara alone! My lashes look fuller, longer, and I have had no problems with clumps. Probably my favorite drugstore mascara I have tried!

Sorry I don’t have great pictures, I didn’t have my Canon camera so I had to use my phone. But these will at least give you an idea of how both the eyeliner and mascara look on just an everyday makeup look :)

I would definitely recommend both of these products! :)

Fat Shaming, Skinny Shaming It’s All The Same Ugly

I follow Victorias Secret on Pinterest, and today on one of the pictures they posted there were several negative comments such as “eww, skeleton much?” and “gross, her ribs” etc.

I notice the same sort of nonsense during the annual Victorias Secret fashion show, a bunch of tweets like “real girls don’t look like them, they are unhealthy!” and “they obviously starve themselves” etc.

It bothers me.

You see, we have entire campaigns, and movement to stop body shaming. To stop bullying. Especially cyber-bullying. And the truth is, shaming someone because they are thin is just as awful and nasty as shaming someone because they are fat. There is NO difference.

Yes I can see the models ribs in the above photo. Hey, you know when i lay like that I can see my ribs too, and let me assure you I am not a skinny gal. I am a “Ive had 4 kids and now I wish I was as “fat” as I was when I first thought I was fat 10 years ago” kind of gal. But you know, when I see these Victorias Secret models I have never once thought they look starved or anorexic. Honestly I think it is pretty obvious they work out A LOT. And drink kale smoothies. And work out.

Wait, why we would be hating on that? Is it because we think they are “unhealthy”? Or because… maybe we feel a little crappy that we don’t work out, drink kale smoothies, then work out again so we have crazy sexy bikini bodies?

There is “I have a disease called anorexia nervosa and i need help and treatment”

And then there is “I work out and eat crazy healthy because fitness and looking my best means everything to me and my career”

You, sitting at home seeing a photo, keep your nasty comments to yourself. If they are healthy, they don’t need negative hurtful comments. If they do have a problem, and are unhealthy…. they don’t need negative hurtful comments.

I feel like I say this a lot, but let’s just appreciate the beauty in the world, not be negative and mean. Lets not hate other people (that we don’t even know 99% of the time) because we have some underlying emotion of unhappiness or insecurity that compels us to tear down someone else.

The good old saying is SO TRUE, if you don’t have anything nice to say, shut it. (It goes like that, right? ;) )

Be the Jennifer Lawrence You Want To See In The World

Anyone who knows me knows I lOVE Jennifer Lawrence. (Me and a million other people, right? This is definitely her moment!) I think she is fantastic. I love reading and watching interviews with her, and yes I have seen every BuzzFeed involving her and shared them with everyone I know. And while half of the time she says things or does things that are just flat out hilarious, she is also well know for her love of food, and hatred of dieting. She has a cult following of women who believe she is empowering healthy body image.

But I had an interesting experience today, I read this strange article that was about how JLaw is NOT the great body image-example we all think she is. The writers argument was that although she is very outspoken about being ok with her body, not starving herself and generally loving food, the fact remains that she is not fat. This person argues that if a fat woman (her example was Melissa McCarthy) talked about food and body image like Jennifer does, that it would NOT be socially acceptable, we only take it from JLaw because she is not fat. In fact, JLaw is body shaming us more than we realize, because while she is not thin by hollywood standards, she IS thin, and probably doesn’t really have to work at it like the “rest of us”.

I think its kind of silly.

You see, I get that she isn’t “fat”. But you do realize that she is a 23 year old busy career woman with no children, right? She is young. I mean, when Melissa McCarthy was in her 20s she was a size 6. She is now in her 40s, and has had 2 children. That is not exactly a fair comparison.

Everyone has different body types and metabolisms, yes. And some people will struggle with their weight more than others, absolutely. But isn’t the point that Jennifer keeps trying to make is she wants to be healthy? She hates diets, doesn’t want to starve herself, and occasional just wants to eat an entire pizza, but also works out to look strong and healthy. And why would we accuse anyone who endorses that to be “body shaming”?

Too many women worry about their weight. Too many girls DO try to skip meals to look skinnier. Too many tiny little teen girls who still have the metabolism of a hummingbird think they have to “diet.” So if JLaw can convince them to eat some french fries, get it girl.

You can find something to be dissatisfied about in everyone, but instead of wasting all that energy nit-picking, lets just

You see, I didn’t want to do any New Years resolutions.  I don’t like the whole New Years resolution malarkey. But, it seems to be inevitable, the start of a new year just makes you reflect on where you have been and where you want to be. And somewhere along the way last year I went from doing yoga and elliptical-ing while watching old victorias secret fashion shows (talk about motivation ha!!!) to…. baking 8 kinds of cookies for the holiday break. Hmmmmmmm. Maybe it is time for a little resolution! ;)

So I surfed youtube looking for something new to get me excited about getting back into the swing of yoga. I love yoga, it is my favorite way to work out. I will never be a hardcore, cross-training, wheatgrass drinking woman. But yoga? Yeah, I can get into that! And when I found Erin Motz yoga by chance on youtube I was THRILLED!

She is great, fun, enthusiastic, down to earth and balanced. Yes, treat your body well, and be fit. But hey, have a burger sometimes too! Her way of thinking fits my personality perfectly!

She has several challenge videos, I am currently on day 9 of her “30 day yoga challenge” via the “do you yoga” channel, as well as I subscribed on her website to do a “10 day abs challenge” and am currently on day 6. (after todays ab challenges I laid spread eagle on my living room floor while my body felt like a piece of jello. its not called a “challenge” for nothing!) Her videos range from 10-20 minutes a piece, and target all sorts of different areas.

Seriously! I am doing around 30 minutes of yoga a day and am allllll kinds of sore everywhere because IT WORKS. It kicks your butt in the most subtle of ways. ;)

Do yourself a favor and join Erin and the Bad Yogis, and fulfill those New Years resolutions (wether they are intentional or unintentional like mine! ;) )

Maybelline Baby Lips Dr.Rescue “Soothing Sorbet”

I found a new lip addiction for the new year, Maybelline’s Baby Lips Dr.Rescue!

I was on holiday break visiting family, and all I brought with me were lip butters and lip crayons. Which I have been totally into, except it was so cold and dry where we were that my lips were looking…well not luscious thats for sure. I needed something medicated to get them back to normal, but medicated chapstick is gross.

So on a whim I grabbed the new (at least to our area!) medicated Baby Lips, the “Dr. Rescue”. And I LOVE it! It was exactly what I needed for this time of year, medicated yes, makes lips softer and smoother yes, but also still pretty! I know in the tube it looks like a pretty bright pink, but it goes on a nice sheer and subtle color:

I personally am a fan of the Baby Lips line, and especially love how inexpensive they are as I tend to lose lip products. (It is possible that I dropped and accidentally ran over a previous tube of the peach Baby Lips and had to buy a replacement. So yeah, cheap is good ;) )

Have a beautiful day! :)

Goodbye, 2013!

Well, the year is coming to a close. And I don’t have any “New Years Resolutions” to share, any highly motivated goals that I want to chronicle here.

All I have to say is,

2013 was a great year, and I know 2014 is going to be even better. Thanks for joining me on this fun little blog journey this year.

xoxo to all my internet friends :)

Revlon ColorStay Liquid Eyeliner Review!

Friendships! Its been so long! Sorry I am a bad blogger. I keep getting distracted by my life.

But as promised, here is my (sadly) second negative Revlon review. I bought the Revlon ColorStay  Liquid Eyeliner Pen in Black. And I hate it.

Why oh why do I do this?! I TOLD you all I LOVED the Stila Stay All Day liquid liner, and it was worth the money. So WHY did I balk at going and spending the money to go buy another one when my old one was gone?!

Oh thats right, I am cheap. And it is NOT working in my favor in this case! ;)

So, why don’t I like it? From a distance, its fine right, just an eyeliner:

But lets take a painfully closer look, shall we?

It is a mess. I have been using this eyeliner for a few weeks, and it takes multiple tries and multiple lines before I get something passable. These pictures I just drew one line, to show you how it looks. Which is terrible.

The pigment isn’t good, the application is not even, there is not nearly enough precision with the tip of the eyeliner. If you were new to liquid eye pens, you would probably weep in frustration thinking you didn’t know how to do it right….but really it is just the eyeliners fault.

The tip is not fine enough. Makes it hard to make nice even lines.

So bottom line, I really wouldn’t recommend this product. Also as a side note the mascara i am wearing, (it’s Maybellines “Falsies”) I hate too. It is so clumpy, as you can see in the too close up pictures. So… I wouldn’t recommend that either! Ha!

I better do a nice review next, I sound like a scrooge!

Have a lovely weekend! :)

Revlon “Grow Luscious Lash Potion” Mascara Review

So, as I said in my last post, my streak of good luck with Revlon products came to an end. I tried the “Grow Luscious Lash Potion” Mascara, and I don’t really like it.

I tried to bear with it, I used almost the whole thing before I reviewed it. But, it never grew on me. (Haha. “Grew”. “Grow Luscious”. Hilarious.) I thought to myself every time I put it on: “I don’t like this stuff. It doesn’t work very well.”

You see, as you probably already know from my constant complaints, I have wimpy lashes. Short lashes. Begging for falsies little lashes. So if a product claims to lengthen and volumize I want to SEE the results! But I never felt that with this mascara. My lashes just looked… a wee bit darker and a wee bit more defined.

To give you an example, I did a picture with one eyeball done with the Revlon, and the other Maybellines “The Falsies” mascara. They are both drugstore mascaras that make similar claims for volume and length. The Maybelline is about $1-2 cheaper depending where you buy it. And you can see a difference just in this 2 coats of mascara comparison:

The left is the Maybelline, and my lashes look longer, and my eye looks a little bigger, more “open”.

So, the Revlon mascara is a no-go for me. And the streak continued, next time I will tell you why I don’t like one of the Revlon liquid eyeliners either.

Sorry to be so negative, isn’t it supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year?! ;)

Hope you are all having a merry time holiday shopping! :)

Revlon LipButter in “Red Velvet”

I have a serious LipButter addiction. It is out of control guys!

As it is the fall/winter season, I thought a nice red, or plum color would be great. But I have had troubles feeling comfortable with bright, highly pigmented, matte lipsticks. So I thought, LipButter!

This color, “Red Velvet” is perfect for this season. And it is a lovely color! It is great, and not quite so bold and popping as a lipstick. So perfect for me! Plus, it is super moisturizing, which is great in this dry weather.

Before you know it, I will have allllllll of these, in every color!  Stop the madness! ;)

Sadly, though I am in love with the LipButters, and the Lip Crayons, and the Nearly Naked Foundation, my streak of good luck with Revlon products came to an end recently, I have not one, but TWO negative reviews to come on Revlon products. Sorry :/… its been good while it lasted Revlon ;) Ha!

Have a good week beauties!
